Section 4.2 - Providing extracts of the Definitive Map
Extracts of the Definitive Map can be made subject to certain restrictions. The Definitive Map is based upon Ordnance Survey material and as a result is subject to Copyright. Extracts can only be provided for one of the following reasons:
- For internal business use.
- For supply to the public following an individual request for the Definitive Map.
- For public inspection of mapping/statutory register.
- For use in judicial/statutory inquiry proceedings.
The sections below describe the restrictions that are in place as a result of copyright legislation [Copyright Act 1988]. The following guidelines are designed to help officers ensure that the provisions of the Act are in force. Most of the requirements can be satisfied by applying the relevant sticker to the sheet that is being produced. Material older than fifty years is no longer restricted by Copyright and can be copied without permission. However, the OS ask that the following acknowledgement is placed on copies of 'out of copyright' OS material.
