"I'm really excited to see the Olympics come to London, I think it will bring not only publicity to our nation but also a sense of unity as we can show how proud we are to be British. Watching the Games in Beijing has inspired us all to achieve great things. We will not all get to compete in the Olympics but we can all take part by supporting our country. The canoe slalom course coming to Broxbourne will boost the sport in our local area and hopefully we will win Gold this year."

"This is an exciting time for British sport. The recent successes of Lewis Hamilton and Andy Murray, coupled with the outstanding achievements of Team Great Britain at the Beijing Olympics and Paralympics demonstrates the wealth of sporting talent we now have available in this country. I look forward to London 2012 with great anticipation. It will be a world class sporting event with a world class result for the UK."

"The London 2012 Games are a once in a life time opportunity for us here in Welwyn Hatfield to celebrate all that is best in our young people. We at the borough council have already held three well attended special events to understand the challenges and options the Olympics will bring to us both for sport development locally and for small and medium sized business development. We will continue to take an active part in the Herts 2012 preparations through the District 2012 Group and in many other ways."

Councillor Irene Dean, Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council's Youth Champion
