Rivers
Many of the rivers and streams of Hertfordshire are suffering. Of the 1258 km
of rivers and streams in the county, at least 70% are considered to be heavily
degraded. The major river systems in Hertfordshire originate as chalk streams
flowing into the lowland clay.
