Pipistrelle bat Pipistrellus pipistrellus

Conservation Status: Common

Protection: Wildlife & Countryside Act 1981 (schedule 5,6), and EC Directive Bern Convention.

General Information: Found in trees and buildings over summer, and trees and buildings in the winter. Their feeding habitats are open woodlands, parkland, farmland, along hedgerows, suburban gardens and urban areas, open water and marshes. This is the most frequently recorded species due to its reliance on houses in the summer time.

Threats: High reliance on buildings where they are subject to conflict with householders, building work and remedial timber treatment. Modern agricultural practices.
