Protection: Wildlife & Countryside Act 1981 (schedule 5,6), and EC Directive Bern Convention.
General Information: Found in trees over summer, and trees and buildings in the winter. Their feeding habitats are broadleaved woodlands, parkland, pasture and water edges.
Threats: Loss of suitable feeding habitat due to mainly modern agricultural practices. Heavy management and loss of suitable trees for roosting. There are only three tree roosts known in Hertfordshire.
