Dabenton's bat Myotis dubentonii

Conservation Status: Locally common

Hertfordshire: The third most recorded bat in Hertfordshire. Very few roosts recorded.

Protection: Wildlife & Countryside Act 1981 (schedule 5,6), and EC Directive Bern Convention.

General Information: Found in barns, older buildings and trees over summer, and undergrounds sites, mines ice houses, trees and buildings in the winter. Their feeding habitats are ponds, lakes, rivers and canals. They have been recorded over many of Britain's waterways.

Threats: Sensitive to water quality and its insect productivity although low levels of pollution may encourage a more consistent supply of certain chironomid midges. Removal of waterside trees. Disturbance at hibernation sites.
