Protection: Wildlife & Countryside Act 1981 (schedule 5,6), and EC Directive Bern Convention.
General Information: Found in barns, older buildings and trees over summer, and undergrounds sites, mines ice houses, trees and buildings in the winter. Their feeding habitat is open broadleaved woodland, parkland and orchards.
Threats: Remedial timber treatment and building work. Loss of woodland and hollow trees for roosting. Modern agricultural practices. Susceptibility to pesticides.
