General Information: Bank voles differ from Field voles by their more reddish-brown fur and longer tail. They are commonly found in areas of mature broad-leaved woodland particularly where there is a thick shrub layer. They are also found in areas of covered grassland, plantations and hedgerows. Bank voles, being more dependent on cover, are rarer than wood mice. Active throughout the day and night with peaks at dawn and dusk; they make runways under cover and are active burrowers, mainly feeding on fruits, seeds and leaves
Threats: Very few. Large scale hedgerow losses may lead to population declines. Natural predators include owls, weasels, stoats, foxes and cats.
