Protected species guidelines
The provisions of the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981 and the Protection
of Badgers Act 1992 and their implications for development and development
control are complex. HBRC is compiling a set of guidelines intended to provide
the necessary information for Local Planning Authorites in Hertfordshire to
ensure that neither they nor the developer will be in breach of the legislation
for wildlife protection where a planning permission is granted. Guidance notes
are included in relation to: Birds, Bats, Badgers, Water Voles, Great Crested
Newts, Reptiles, and plants A list of specially protected species in Hertfordshire
can be found below. Areas with protected species are being digitised onto
the GIS ecological site database.
