Hertfordshire Biological Records Centre

Countryside heritage project

This project aims to focus resources on key wildlife, historic, and landscape aspects of the Hertfordshire countryside. It aims to achive conservation through explanation of the value of sites to owners and the voluntary agreement of owners and users to provide positive management. The continued survival of the most valued features of the Hertfordshire countryside is dependent on sympathetic management by farmers and landowners.

Work is continuing on a number of existing and new sites. Recently, inputs into management plans and liaison with user groups have been undertaken on Colney Heath, Shrub Hill Common and Chorleywood Common. Habitat Surveys for new sites have included Munchers Green, Moor Green near Stevenage, and Batchworth Heath. Monitoring vists have been made to several chalk grassland sites in the north of the Country to assess whether management is maintaining the ecological interest.
