Countryside Management Service

We have a number of leafleted walks that are aimed at beginners or those walking specifically to improve their health. Find one in your area and give it a go.

The Countryside Management Service (CMS) has been working with communities in Hertfordshire for 30 years, helping them to care for and enjoy the environment.

New project apprentices

In June, five new apprentices joined the CMS and Groundwork Hertfordshire. These three are currently working with us:

Michelle Roberts

apprentice Michelle Roberts

'I have joined as a Project Apprentice with Health Walks being a major responsibility of mine. When not at work I like making (and eating) chocolate truffles, painting, horse riding and walking along beaches at sunset with my dog, Dave.'

Sarah Lord

apprentice Sarah Lord

'I joined the Northeastern area in July for six months as a Project Apprentice. Originally from Yorkshire, I have a BSc (hons) in Ecology from Lancaster University, and had lots of fun travelling in Australia and New Zealand. I am a newcomer to Hertfordshire, having worked in an environmental education centre in Buckinghamshire for the last three years. I'm vegan, and have a very good chocolate brownie recipe if anyone's interested!'

Brian Lee

apprentice Brian Lee

'Hi! My name's Brian Lee and I'm the new apprentice at CMS West and Southern area. I have just finished a degree in Environmental Science; I was pleased to be offered one of the green Apprentice positions. I look forward to spending time at both CMS and Groundwork.'
