Letchmore Heath Pond Restoration

Letchmore Heath pond is once again a focal point for the hamlet and valuable habitat for local wildlife.
On the 21st of November, the Mayor and Mayoress of Hertsmere, parish and district Councillors and others involved in the project joined with local residents and the CMS to celebrate the completion of the restoration of the pond.
The pond was drained to allow a large amount of silt that had accumulated to be removed. The banks were reprofiled and vegetated with pre-planted coir rolls. The pond, owned by Aldenham Parish council, is now in a much healthier and attractive state. The final part of the project was to produce an interpretation board highlighting the wildlife that can be seen in, on and near the pond
Around ££30,000 and over 100 volunteer hours were spent returning the pond to its former glory. Lafarge Aggregates Ltd funded the work through the landfill Community fund with support from the Local heritage initiative and Letchmore Heath village Trust.
