New Community Walks

New community walks were launched in Highfield Park last week and will now take place twice a week. This will be an opportunity for local residents to get more active without going to the gym and what’s more they are free!
Walks will be led from outside Charters Health Club, opposite Spar, Hill End Lane on Mondays at 9.30am and Tuesdays at 1.30pm. Just turn up!
The health walks schemes in Harpenden and Hemel Hempstead are very popular and St Albans City and District Council and the Countryside Management Service want to extend the opportunity to the residents of St Albans too.
The Mayor of St Albans, Cllr Kate Morris, attended the launch on Tuesday 26th June. The Mayor said:
'I re-discovered walking following a hip operation and it has provided a sociable way of maintaining my good health and mobility. I recommend these walks to everyone as a way of keeping fit or reclaiming fitness you may have regarded as lost in a friendly way - and a splendid opportunity for exploring safely the open spaces around us.'
Walks will cater for a wide range of physical fitness and be buggy and wheelchair friendly. They last for about an hour and follow surfaced paths in and around the parkland of Highfield Park on the eastern edge of St Albans. The walks are led by at least two trained volunteers and are often followed by an optional stop for tea or coffee.
