User guide/ FAQ

How is the Good Practice Guide structured?

The information in the Good Practice Guide is sub-divided into numbered Sections each relating to a particular aspect of rights of way and are assembled under three broad subject headings relating to the Definitive Map and Statement, Maintenance and Enforcement.

The GPG is designed as an electronic document, with hyperlinks between sections and within pages. Links are shown in a blue and underlined, but will change to purple if you have visited the destination page already. The contents flow logically from these three main sections and are linked where relevant to other sections of the guide.

Hard copies will not have the benefit of these links and will therefore be less easy to use, users may wish to bear this in mind before printing out large chunks of the document.

How do I locate what I want?

Information about broad subject areas is best located by using the Contents page to identify the relevant Section and following the link. Detailed information about a particular Section is also best located this way as each Section normally has more detailed contents listed at the top of each page. More specific information, that you are uncertain how to locate, may be found by using the search facility (to be developed).

How do I find my way within the Good Practice Guide?

Navigation within the document can be achieved either by returning to the Contents page or by use of the Navigation bar at the top and bottom of each page. The 'up' arrow featured throughout the text and at the bottom of each page will take you back to the top. The 'rewind' icon at the top and bottom will return you to the Contents page.

How do I know if the information is current?

The current authoritative version is held on HertsDirect. Do not rely on hard copies without checking the current version.

Who do I contact for information?

Queries about the operational procedures and standards should be directed to the Rights of Way Unit at County Hall 01992 555260. Individual responsibilities are shown on the map with an email link.
